*Statement of House Speaker William J. Howell on **

Small Business Week
*

*FREDERICKSBURG, VA* — Virginia House of Delegates Speaker William J.
Howell (R-Stafford) released the following statement Tuesday marking Small
Business Week:

“More than half of Americans own or work in a small business and small
businesses create two out of every three new jobs in the United States. All
across the Commonwealth, thousands of small business owners work hard to
grow our economy and strengthen our communities each day. This week, we say
thank you.

“Republicans in the Virginia House of Delegates know and appreciate the
impact of small business owners. We are committed to helping, encouraging
and growing small business all across the state. We have worked to keep
taxes low, reduce unnecessary regulations and strengthen Virginia’s
workforce in a way that helps businesses grow and thrive.

“This year, we passed a number of pieces of legislation that will help
improve Virginia’s business climate. We worked to reform our legal system
to reduce unnecessary lawsuits and lower the cost of doing business in
Virginia. We established the Small Business Investment Grant Fund to help
new businesses get on their feet and create jobs. We passed legislation to
encourage investment in entrepreneurs and small business startups. We have
fought to strengthen Virginia’s pro-worker, pro-jobs labor laws in order to
protect businesses from union bosses. These are just a few of the many
steps we have taken to promote small business in the Commonwealth of
Virginia.

“Thank you to all of the hard-working small business owners, their families
and their employees for what they do to make the Commonwealth stronger. We
appreciate you, believe in you and stand with you.”

From Supervisor Letourneau: VDOT to Share 606 Design Plans at Public Hearing

Dear Friends,

Please see email below from Supervisor Letourneau.

*VDOT to Share 606 Design Plans at Public Hearing*
*Wednesday, June 26, 2013, 6:00 – 8:00 PM*
*Lunsford Middle School*
*26020 Ticonderoga Rd., South Riding,VA *

As you know, for the past year Chairman York, Delegate Ramadan and I have
been working on
improving Route 606/Old Ox Road. 606 has been identified as the top road
construction priority
in the entire County by the Board of Supervisors. In the FY14 budget, which
will take effect on
July 1, our Board appropriated $40 million as part of a cost-share with
VDOT and the
Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Additional funds have been
committed by the
Commonwealth and by MWAA, allowing this project to proceed.

Now that the preliminary engineering phase on the project is complete, VDOT
is ready to hold a
design public hearing. The design is for widening the road to 4 lanes
between Evergreen Mills
Road and the Dulles Greenway. The purpose of the meeting is for the public
to see the plans,
understand more about the project, and provide comments. VDOT officials
will be present to
answer questions and explain details.

VDOT has set up a Route 606 Widening project website, available here. If
you cannot attend the
meeting but would like to provide comments, you may do so before July 11 by
emailing
meeting_comments@VDOT.virginia.gov. Reference “Loudoun County Parkway/Old
Ox Road”
in the subject line.

Widening 606 has been a major focus of mine since taking office, so I’m
looking forward to this
meeting as the next step in the process. I look forward to seeing you there.
